Dr. Terri L. Winfree

Dr. Terri L. Winfree, recipient of the Training Excellence of the Year Award, epitomizes the essence of connection and productivity. She holds a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in Communications, Studies/Human Performance, and Training from Governors State University, and a Ph.D. in Education and Human Resources from Colorado State University.

Dr. Winfree's journey began as the first in her family to attend college. Attending Prairie State College marked the start of a remarkable path that led her to earn her doctorate and return to Prairie State College. In 2013, she was named the first female president and the first Prairie State graduate to lead the Chicago Heights-based community college. Dr. Winfree served as the 14th President of Prairie State College (PSC) in Chicago Heights, Illinois, from 2013 to 2020.

Currently, she is the President of the Chicago Southland Chamber of Commerce, an organization that serves 85 communities in the Southland, spanning five counties in Illinois and Indiana. Dr. Winfree is soon to retire and is participating in the search for her replacement. She is recognized as a lifelong advocate of the Southland, capable of leading the chamber and its board of directors to ensure the region has continued access to information, resources, and advocacy to promote community and business prosperity.

In addition to her presidential roles, Dr. Winfree is an adjunct professor at Governors State University and the University of Illinois. She is a certified John Maxwell Speaker, Coach, and Trainer. Dr. Winfree has served on numerous boards and committees throughout the Chicago Southland, presented at conferences, provided keynote presentations, and facilitated training for various organizations.  She has vast experience in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and Organizational Culture.

Dr. Winfree describes herself as a "Servant Leader," finding fulfillment in giving. She believes she learns more from others than they learn from her.
