Fraud Mitigation within Your Disaster Recovery Plans

Register Today for this Business before Hours Workshop

For all businesses – from the very small to very large!

Wednesday, May 10, 2017, 8:15 a.m.

Although you hear increasingly about cyber-attacks and fraud in the news and on social media, many or most of us don’t believe it can happen to us or our business. We don’t want to think about the negative effect it could have on our good name, our cash flow, or our day-to-day business operations.  We also may not want to stop and think that even if it “can’t” happen to us, it could happen to someone else in our lives, be it our business supply chain or a family member and that by it happening to them, it could also affect us….

If you do accept the possibility, then take a moment and sign up very fast for this workshop and invite others to attend with you, as well.  Kristen Saranteas, Senior Vice President, Head of Treasury Management for First Midwest, will be presenting this workshop.

19th Annual Meeting and Luncheon

JOIN US AT OUR 19th ANNUAL MEETING & LUNCHEON  EVENT

Wednesday, September 14, 2016

TIME: 11:30 am – 2:00 pm

Tinley ParkConvention Center

Fraud is one of the most important issues facing businesses and individuals today due to new payment systems that are sometimes unregulated and global fraudulent opportunities within businesses from all over the world.

Each of us is aware of recent examples of a hospital’s curtailed services resulting from a hacked and ransomed server, a senior citizen’s life savings lost through identity theft, or a business being fined millions of dollars for compromised customer credit card information.  Each breach costs resources in the form of time, money, incredible stress, lost business, and good will.  And, for each breach that made the news, many more have not … yet.

As a representative of a municipality, bank, corporate entity, or a medical or educational institution, you owe it to yourself, your clients, your employees and your suppliers to provide a safe exchange of goods and services.  By heightening awareness of this scary reality, businesses and residents of the southland can then mitigate risks.

Easier said than done…

Ambassador Carol Moseley Braun’s Keynote Address

The South Suburban Small Business Association (SSSBA) was honored to have Ambassador Carol Moseley Braun as keynote speaker for our 18th annual meeting and luncheon. The event was held at the Odyssey Country Club on September 30th, 2015.

Braun was well received by a large group of SSSBA members and guests. As the owner of her own small business, Good Food Organics, a distributor of organic coffee, tea and olive oil, she was proud to boast that she had never missed a payroll.

She spoke to the group about “Capitalism and Conscience.” In her address, she gave several examples of how businesses have sought to turn a profit without much regard to how their products or services ultimately affected mankind or the environment. She pointed out that capitalism and conscience have historically been on opposite ends of the spectrum in business as well as in government. And she reminded us all that as business leaders and government officials, we should always be mindful about how our actions affect others either directly or indirectly.

And in parting, Ambassador Braun left us with this poem (writer unknown):

One song can spark a moment

One flower can wake a dream

One tree can start a forest

One bird can herald spring

One smile begins a friendship

One handclasp lifts a soul

One star can guide a ship

One thought can frame a goal

One vote can change a nation

One sunbeam lights a room

One candle wipes out darkness

One laugh will conquer gloom

One step must start each journey

One word must start each prayer

One hope will raise our spirits

One touch can show you care

One voice can speak with wisdom

One heart can know what’s true

One life can make a difference

One person just like you.
