His life has been dedicated to public service, community, and education, retiring in 2005, as Director of Guidance at Brother Rice High School.

Mr. Zabrocki has received numerous awards for his outstanding commitment to the community from a variety of local and even worldwide organizations, including the Tinley Park Chamber of Commerce, the Crisis Center for South Suburbia, and several newspapers.   He was a 2005 finalist for the World Mayor Award. Comments made about Mayor Zabrocki at that time included, that he is admired and supported by all ethnic groups because he works for his citizens, not his special interests and whether it is large or small, he is involved in what is important to his Community. The University of Chicago cited him as an example of good Mayoral leadership.
Under Mayor Zabrocki’s leadership, Tinley Park became one of the fastest growing cities in the United States, by ensuring it focus on being a healthy and financially strong community, one that offers diversity in population and economy.  He has worked to make sure that its economy combines a mixture of manufacturing, distribution, education, office, hospitality, retail, and government services.

In 2006, the Commerce Department announced Tinley Park as the WINNER of the EXCELLENCE IN ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AWARD for urban or suburban economic development, recognizing commitment to sound, research-based, market driven economic development in helping to grow the local economy.

And, you may also remember that Business Week named Tinley Park the best place in the U.S. to raise a family.

Of course, all of this pales when compared to South Suburban Small Business Association’s recognizing Mayor Ed Zabrocki with the Business Development Leader award!  It is our pleasure to recognize you, Ed Zabrocki, Mayor of Tinley Park.
